Measure Neck Relief Strat

Adjusting your guitar s neck relief the amount of bow and resistance in the neck may sound like a scary proposition to the first timer but this task is something you can definitely do yourself if you take it slow and work in very small increments.

Place a capo on the first fret then use your finger to fret the e string uppermost string closest to where the neck deepens to join the body. The top of an acoustic guitar may rise or fall to some degree depending on the climatic conditions in your part of the country.

Most quality guitar manufacturers supply the correct tool for adjusting neck. Check the height between the fret located at the neck and body joint and the bottom of each string refer to the specifications chart for the proper measurement. Insert a feeler gauge at the top of the 8th fret then consult the chart. You can preset the basic intonation of your guitar by taking a tape measure and measuring from the inside of the nut to the center of the 12th fret the fret wire itself.
